Four Simple Steps To Begin Meditating

  • find your "haven"

No, you don't look ridiculous! Anyway, if you have really found that "quiet place", you don't have to worry about anybody watching! You can sit or lay down. Whatever you prefer! As you close your eyes, begin focusing on your "haven". That could be the mountains, the beach, a room, anything that allows you to be happy! Light candles, play music, or don't! Whatever you prefer. It's like a mini vacation!

Next, Relax! Now I did not say go to sleep! You may want to set a timer for fifteen minutes. A soft sounding timer!

Now, as all the "garbage" enters your mind, acknowledge it and go back to your "haven". Thoughts of the day may be drifting in. Distracting sounds may be filtering in around you. THAT IS OK! Just acknowledge and go back to your "haven".

Remember:

Keep breathing!

The whole point of practicing meditation is to reduce stress - not bring on more!

Soon, you will be able to take little mini vacations whenever you want. For instance, when the kids are getting a little too rowdy or the boss is explaining to you why you got passed over for that promotion you wanted! Now I really don't mean to zone out so you can not hear anything! I mean to relax enough so you can calmly handle the situation. It may just help being able to stand back, take a deep cleansing breath and move forward.

Ideally, meditating for fifteen minutes three times a day would be excellent! However, let's keep it simple! Begin with once a day for fifteen minutes. The more you practice, the more you will want to feel this comforting, relaxed state of mind. The more you practice, the easier and quicker you will be able to "get there".

Of course, there are several other types of meditation if you wish to get into a "deeper" experience. They may include: Mantra, Chakra, Yantra or Vipassana.

Whatever form of meditation you choose, the point is that you choose one! If it doesn't work for you, try something else! Keep it simple, relax and enjoy!

You Deserve It!
