Learn to change your way of thinking!
So let's look at how you think about different issues. Hopefully, you are or will become OPEN MINDED to all options. There are three components to developing an attitude:
- THOUGHTS
- FEELINGS
- BEHAVIORS
What you think about yourself affects how you feel about yourself which affects how you 'treat' yourself. Confused? Ok, let's break this down.
When you look in the mirror, what do you REALLY see? What do you think when you look at yourself naked? Do you see thin? Do you see overweight? Do you see old? Do you see wrinkles? Do you see blemishes? Do you see scars? Do you see a perfect body?
THEN.....how do you feel? sad? happy? disappointed? angry?
THEN.....what do you do? walk away? say it is useless? say there is no time to make any changes?
Let's take a look at a few "stinking thinking traps" and a possible solution:
Self-pity:Why do all these things happen to me? Nobody appreciates me for all I do for them. Poor me!!
Solution: "Things" do happen. It is nice to hear that you are appreciated, however, you could ask: "I would like to hear that I am appreciated."
Rationalizing: If I had more time, I would take better care of myself. If only.....
Solution: Taking care of myself is important and I will take the time for me.
Cockiness: I'm ok...I don't need to do or even look at anything that may change my life for the better!
Solution: I can be open to suggestions for adding happiness to my life.
It Can't Happen to Me: I don't need to make any changes because I am in good health.
Solution: Anything can happen. Life is truly living one day at a time.
Unrealistic expectations: I should work out more... I should be more organized... I should... You should ...
Solution: Quit shoulding on yourself!
Impatience: I am just not loosing weight fast enough! People are just not cooperating with what I think they should do.
Solution: Take it easy! Time takes time!! Eveyone has a free will to do whatever they want to do. I can not change anyone. I am attempting to change myself.
Ok, remember that you are striving for progress not perfection.
Use positive affirmations to help. Repetition encourages change.
I AM A WORTHWHILE AND GOOD PERSON! Say that on a daily basis. Let's get an attitude adjustment.
